I am a mother of boys. Three beautiful, dirty boys fill my days with excitement and chaos. I’m pretty proud to report I know almost every superhero ever created and can discuss at length whose powers are the best. (Definitely Thor, just in case you were wondering.) Dresses and princesses are not a part of day to day life here.
So, I was pretty excited about the service project I chose for this week. The Cinderella Project takes donations of gently used formal gowns and accessories. With those donated gowns, they hold boutiques for high school girls who would not have been able to afford a dress for prom. They can come and pick out a beautiful dress for free. Every girl deserves a chance to feel special and beautiful.
So I put out a message on Facebook, asking if anyone had any formal dresses they wanted to donate. The response was phenomenal! I set out in my mommy-van, and collected all these beautiful dresses. Twenty-five dresses to be exact! These twenty-five gowns were just sitting in closets collecting dust, but now new life has been breathed into them. They will be danced in, and laughed in. They will help a young woman feel important. These dresses were excess, but now they will be cherished. What other excess items do we have, that someone else may need?
I’ve had so much encouraging feedback from what I am doing. So many people have come to me and said how much they are enjoying journeying with me. I am humbled. I am so glad you are journeying with me as well. If you’ve felt inspired, please share what you are doing. Let’s truly journey together, and share in this Lenten adventure.
